About Dr. Stayer
Catherine Stayer, M.D., Ph.D. is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist and practitioner of lifestyle medicine. She specializes in mental health and well-being for children, teens, adults, couples, and families. Her practice offers an integrative approach to psychiatry and longevity medicine that includes psychopharmacology and psychotherapy along with complementary modalities such as nutritional and herbal support, spiritual practices, and lifestyle rebalancing.
Dr. Stayer has a longstanding interest in mind-body healing. Prior to studying western medicine, she studied Traditional Chinese Medicine in Oakland, California and Wuhan, China and subsequently worked as a licensed acupuncturist (L. Ac.). After graduating UC Berkeley with double majors in Biophysics and Neurobiology, she attended medical school in Munich, Germany, where she also did research in sleep physiology at the Max-Planck Institute for Psychiatry. She later trained in neurology and earned a doctoral degree at the University of Heidelberg.
Dr. Stayer trained in adult psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and child and adolescent Psychiatry in a fellowship for clinician-researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and Children’s Hospital, Washington D.C. She has authored numerous articles in neurology and psychiatry and has research experience in childhood-onset schizophrenia, Tourette’s and obsessive-compulsive disorder, sleep physiology, neurology, and pediatric psychopharmacology.
She is a graduate of the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. She is board certified in both Adult and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and in Anti-Aging Medicine by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
